“Look Daddy! Teacher says that every time a bell rings a non-christian celestial being gets its wings!” Think that would be the remake of “Its a Wonderful Life?” – Sarah’s Facebook Post

I spit out my diet coke laughing when I read this post. The political correctness frenzy has always made me laugh but especially at the holidays. The only problem is that lately everything is getting so PC that it is not very funny.

I have never understood the push to try to assimilate the various religious observances and make them into one big bland “Happy Holiday.” Isn’t the goal of political correctness not to stereotype groups and to be accepting of differences? How are we accepting differences if we don’t allow there to be any? There is nothing wrong with celebrating the different religious holidays and for the kids to learn about them in school. It seems to me that the biggest cause of bigotry is ignorance. How will kids learn about Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or Ramadan if we don’t teach and explain it to them? When someone wishes me a Merry Christmas, I don’t immediately think, “this person has no respect for my beliefs and is trying to push Christianity on me.”  I just appreciate that they are wishing me a joyful sentiment for a holiday they observe.

Jenna has come home from school for the last few days singing Silent Night (private school because singing Silent Night would NEVER happen in public school).  I’m not planning on marching in to see if “Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel” is getting equal playtime. She knows about our religion because that is what I teach her and she also understands that other people believe and celebrate differently and that is not only okay, it is a great thing.

This is such a joyous time of year and the PC Grinch Police are sucking the life out of it. Everything has so many rules and restrictions that people are afraid to say anything for fear offending someone. So in honor of the PCGP, I wanted to give my friends and readers some guidance to get you through this holiday time in a politically correct non-offensive manner:

You  should avoid Santa Claus.  We don’t want women thinking he is calling you a “ho.” Plus he may also be offensive because he is old, obese and white. And (insert voice of the Church Lady) the word SATAN is in his name!

Those of you proponents of gun control, you want to avoid the movie A Christmas Story. The NRA might be behind it. After all, the only thing 9-year-old Ralphie wants for Christmas is a “An Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!” Spoiler alert – Ralphie gets the gun for Christmas.

Be sure to use the only PC greeting this time of year, “Happy Holidays,” because if a Jewish, atheist, agnostic, Buddhist or Muslim person is wished a Merry Christmas they may think you are calling them a heathen.

Forget chestnuts roasting on an open fire – kids are allergic to nuts don’t you know?

Don’t let your kids sing or watch Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. It promotes bullying and shows how two-faced friends can be (the other reindeers only loved Ruldolph after Santa employed him).

Frosty the Snowperson – I didn’t see any snowballs did you?

It’s called a Holiday Tree now . . . and I hope you intend to replant it in your front yard after you pull off all the tinsel, ornaments and needles.

“Don we now our gay apparel” could be offensive to homosexuals. Maybe we should say that we are “putting on eco-friendly organic hemp gender-neutral clothing” fa la la la la la la la la.

So in parting, I want to wish everyone a Happy Winter Solstice! (I hope that is not offensive to Floridians).
